Reed Avocado Reed Avocado

The Reed Avocado is our favorite here at Barham Avocados. The Reed is the latest of our varieties to be picked and is available from late December to early February. It is perfect for summer salads, for breakfasts, or even for a snack on the run. It is a large round fruit that is deliciously creamy and full of flavor.

You should be able to recognise the reed as a round fruit with a medium sized seed. It has a thick green skin with a slight pebbling, which is easy to peel and inside you will find a delicious creamy flesh.

It is a medium to large fruit, ranging 200 grams to 500 grams. You can tell when it is ripe, although the skin remains green, the fruit yields to gentle pressure when ripe.

Hass Avocado Hass Avocado

Hass are the most popular avocados through out Australia and they are the ones you will most commonly find in your supermarket. Hass are best picked from October to January and they have a distinctive skin that is more rough than other varieties . This skin turns a purplish black colour when it is ripe. The Hass is an oval-shaped fruit with a small to medium seed, great tasting and easy peeling.

It ranges in weight from about 100 – 400 grams.

Fuerte Avocado Fuerte Avocado

The Bacon avocado is a green variety avocado and is known as a Winter variety. It is grown in Southern Australia because it is more susceptible to frost. It has a much thinner skin than other varieties and can therefore be easily peeled (even using a standard kitchen peeler). The oil content of the Bacon is not as high as other varieties so it has a lighter taste. We like to enjoy the bacon on some dry biscuits in the evening or instead of butter in a sandwich.

The fruit is oval shaped with a medium to large seed, it is easy to peel and has a lighter taste.

With some varieties the skin will darken to a purplish-‐colour when ripe. This is not the case with the Bacon variety; it will stay a deep green. You’ll know when the Bacon is ready to eat when the avocado is quite soft to touch over the entire surface. Don’t be tempted to open it too early! If some spots still feel hard, wait longer!

Fuerte Avocado Fuerte Avocado

The Fuerte is harvested early Autumn. It has a smooth green skin and is medium to large in size. It is pear-shaped with a medium sized seed. As with all our Avocados it has a great taste. Its great for pastas and for toasts in the morning, topped with chopped tomato, basil and onion on a cold morning. It is a larger fruit ranging from 200 to almost 600 grams. It has a smooth and very thin green skin, hiding a creamy, pale green flesh. When it is ripe the fruit yields to gentle pressure but the skin remains green.
